Day 18 – Ye must become as a little child

Part 18/19: 40 Days with the Risen Christ

Words of the Risen Lord

Ye must become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. — 3 Nephi 11:38

The Moment

As the Savior concluded His first great sermon to the Nephites, He added a divine condition—one that echoed His mortal teachings in Jerusalem:

“Ye must become as a little child.” (3 Nephi 11:38)

In a world that rewards pride and power, He pointed to meekness. In a society fractured by disputation, He called for childlike trust, submission, and love.

Insights from Scripture and Prophets

To “become as a little child” is not to be naive. It is to be humble, teachable, honest, and without guile—qualities that open the soul to Christ.

President Henry B. Eyring taught:

“It takes faith to become as a little child. Faith that God knows better than we do, and that He will lead us with perfect love.”
President Henry B. Eyring, April 2006 General Conference

The kingdom of God is not inherited by status. It is received by surrender—by hearts willing to kneel, to trust, and to follow.

The Savior, speaking to adults, lifted up the children as the example. The more we resemble them in purity, humility, and love, the closer we come to Him.
