Day 12 – I am the light and the life of the world

Part 12/19: 40 Days with the Risen Christ

Christ descends to the Nephites

Words of the Risen Lord

Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me… — 3 Nephi 11:10–11

The Moment

Following storms, destruction, and three days of darkness, a still voice pierced the silence at the temple in Bountiful. A multitude gathered. They heard the voice a third time, and it said:

“Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.” (3 Nephi 11:7)

Then they saw Him — clothed in white, descending from heaven to stand among them. They fell to the earth. And He spoke:

“Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.” (3 Nephi 11:10)

Insights from Scripture and Prophets

The Risen Lord—having completed His mortal mission—visits His “other sheep” as promised in John 10:16. His words are direct, gentle, and prophetic.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland testified:

“Of all the messages of the Book of Mormon, none is more significant than the declaration that Jesus is the Christ—not just for the Old World, but for all the world.”
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 2007 General Conference

In this appearance, Christ affirms His identity, His suffering, and His role as the light and life of the world. He fulfills prophecy, bridges nations, and invites all to know Him personally.
