Day 16 – After this manner shall ye baptize

This entry is part 16 of 19 in the series 40 Days with the Risen Christ
Christ teaches the manner of baptism

Words of the Risen Lord

After this manner shall ye baptize in my name… Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. — 3 Nephi 11:24–25

The Moment

After declaring His doctrine, the Risen Lord taught the Nephites the sacred ordinance of baptism. He gave exact words, leaving no ambiguity:

“After this manner shall ye baptize in my name…” (3 Nephi 11:24)

He also clarified that **authority was essential**: the person must be ordained and act in His name. Baptism was not symbolic only—it was a binding covenant performed with divine approval.

Insights from Scripture and Prophets

Christ’s instruction shows that baptism is both sacred and orderly. It is not just an act of faith, but a covenant entered into with power and precision.

President Dallin H. Oaks explained:

“The ordinance of baptism must be performed by one who holds the proper priesthood authority and who follows the divinely prescribed procedure.”
President Dallin H. Oaks, October 2011 General Conference

In a world filled with religious variation, the Savior emphasized clarity. He gave His church one doctrine, one baptism, and one authorized way to receive it.
